TSNY Los Angeles is a school of flying trapeze.
We build our program around this magical and challenging
activity because it offers us a precise and flexible tool
for expanding our abilities while never losing touch with
the thrill of being alive. TSNY Los Angeles plans to expand into a world-class
aerial school and performance center over the coming years.
Where is TSNY Los Angeles?
We have a brand new year round location at the Santa Monica Pier, Santa Monica California! Directions and other information about our wonderful host, Santa Monica Pier, can be found at http://www.santamonicapier.org/.
Our Directions page will tell you how to get here.
Who are the instructors at TSNY Los Angeles?
Our instructors come from a variety of backgrounds. We strive to bring you the best in athletic, acrobatic,
team building, fear conquering and personal growth. To do
this we employ trainers who show excellent ability with
circus, stunt work, performance, adventure and above all,
safety.
If you are not a pro, we have development programs for
trainees to begin the journey of aerial arts instruction.
Go to Employment Opportunities for further information.
Depending on your experience and talent, we will evaluate
and discuss with you the best way to integrate your energy
with our school. As your skills grow and you become more
able to assist us, we will discuss with you the best path
for your advancement. Please apply in writing to lainfo@trapezeschool.com.
Be sure to include your work experience, references and
schedule of availability.
What does TSNY Los Angeles give back to the community?
TSNY Los Angeles is proud to offer the Santa Monica community class
time for no- and low-cost courses. If your group is interested in applying for a
scholarship please follow the directions for submitting
a request for reduced or waived fee.
Who can do flying trapeze?
Our program is designed to meet the needs of a wide range
of people. Whether you are athletic or not, afraid or not,
ready or not, we make flying fun and safe.
- Ages 6 and up are welcome.
We enjoy hosting parties, athletic teams, corporate
groups, family gatherings, dating groups, tourist groups,
boys’ and girls’ clubs, community groups, school
groups: anyone with a taste for adventure.
Who cannot do flying trapeze?
You will be denied the privilege of flying with us if you
come to the site under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Our Staff is empowered to deny access to our facility for
anyone who they believe may be a danger to themselves or
others. Additionally, if a person is rude or uncooperative
they may be denied entrance or asked to leave.
How old do I have to be to fly?
There is no specific minimum age to participate. Children who are at least 4 years old generally have the required coordination and awareness,
but may not have the attention span to last through a 2-hour session.
Please give us a call if you are unsure about signing up a child for class. Once a spot is reserved, you are responsible for the full payment even if the child is unwilling or unable to complete the session. A parent or guardian must be present when their children under age 12 are in class, unless special arrangements have been made with the school. All of the child's information must be up-to-date, and we must have a waiver signed by a parent or court-appointed legal guardian for any student under the age of 18. Relatives, friends and nannies cannot sign the waiver unless they have been designated by a court as the legal guardian for that child.
Is flying trapeze safe?
We make your safety our number one priority. We
use state-of–the-art equipment and procedures to assure
the safety of our students from the time they walk on the
site. Students are continually trained on the protection
of their health as well as the health of their fellow students.
All our equipment is designed to be well above the required
safety standards and is kept in tiptop shape by constant
maintenance. We use a fully rated spotting system for the
ladder, a double spotting system, and safe comfortable belts
to protect you when you fly. Our soft, stretchy net always
assures a nice landing.
Keep in mind that scrapes and blisters are a part of any
sport and are no less a part of ours. We work closely with
local care services to ensure efficient action should a
serious emergency arise.
Please help us by taking the time to fully complete the
registration and to let us know if you have any special
conditions that may affect your safe participation in our
program.
How do I sign up for class?
Just go to the class registration page, find the class you want, fill out the registration form (or double-check it if you have already registered), select your payment method, and push "Register." You will be added to the roster for that class, and we will send you an e-mail confirmation.
How many students do you have in a class?
Normally there is a limit of ten students per class. Groups
may request that more people participate, but must understand
that unless they wish to purchase extended class time, their
group members will have proportionally less turns at flying
with each additional student they bring.
Some advanced classes may be limited to less than ten,
and students who wish to fly as teams may request a closed
class. In these instances, the students are required to
cover the full cost of a ten-person class for that time
slot.
On occasion, a class may have up to two students over the
ten-person limit, due to an error in scheduling on the part
of the school. In this case, the school will extend the
time if possible or will ask for volunteers to step out
of the class. We usually find some cool way to compensate
the volunteers.
What is a mixed level class and why do you have them?
Mixed level classes are conducted for flyers with skills
ranging from beginner to advanced. We strive to
create a class environment that is effective and fun for
everyone. Sometimes, there are not enough flyers to fill
a class. Rather than cancel a class we choose to open it
to all levels.
What should I wear to class?
Although the net is soft to land in, it can be a little rough on exposed knees, shoulders and toes. Also remember that you'll be wearing a safety belt over your shirt and you'll be hooking your knees over the bar, so it's best to wear clothes that fit snugly so they don't get in your way. Tights, yoga pants or snug sweat pants always work well, and shirts with sleeves (even very short ones) are a good idea. Bring a pair of socks or light slippers to wear while you're flying, and sandals or flip flops to wear between turns. On hot days, you should also bring a towel. If you have long hair, put it up with a rubber band (not plastic hair clips).
Will I be sore after class?
If you are new to aerial arts or exercise, there is a good
chance you will experience soreness a day or two after you
have class. This is a normal part of challenging your body
to something new. It will go away within a few days and
quicker if you stretch and take hot baths.
What is a waiver and why do I have to sign it?
The waiver is a document designed to protect you and the school. It is designed to inform you of the risk you are taking and to make sure that you (or your parent or court-appointed legal guardian) take full responsibility for that risk. The waiver also allows our insurance to be effective for any situation that warrants its use. It is important to read the waiver carefully and to fully understand it before you sign.
You (or your parent or court-appointed legal guardian) will be asked to read and sign a waiver at your first class. Please come 15 minutes early to do this. Copies of the waiver will be available at the start of class, but you may view it or print extra copies beforehand using the link below. Students who pay the one-time registration fee only have to sign the waiver once per year; all others must present a signed waiver at the start of every class (registering allows us to keep track of your waiver signing).
The minimum age for participation in all of our classes is 6 years old.
STUDENTS UNDER THE AGE OF 18 must have a waiver signed by their parent or court-appointed legal guardian before they will be allowed to participate in the class. Relatives, friends and nannies cannot sign unless they have been designated by a court as the legal guardian for that child. If you have any questions please give us a call. GROUPS: If you are signing up a group of children, bring signed waivers for each child with you to class.
There are four kinds of cancellations that you need to be
aware of.
First is a student cancelling their participation
in a NON-WORKSHOP class. If you have signed up for a spot in a group class and wish to cancel, you must notify TSNY Los Angeles at least 72 hours prior to the class start time in order to receive a full refund. You may transfer your registration to another person if you submit your request in advance and receive authorization. You'll receive confirmation of your cancellation and/or registration transfer by email or phone. If you cancel your spot in class less than 72 hours before the class start time, then the fee is non-refundable. We do this because if you cancel and we've held the spot for you without sufficient opportunity for someone else to fill it, we lose.
The second kind of cancellation is when an entire NON-WORKSHOP class is booked by a single person or group who wishes to cancel, TSNY Los Angeles must be notified at least 3 weeks prior to the class in order to receive a full refund. If we receive the notification less than three weeks, and at least one week before class, you will receive a 50% refund. Cancellations less than a week before class are non-refundable. Also, when a group reserves an entire class, they will be responsible for payment for all the students signed up, even if some fail to attend.
The third type of cancellation is for WORKSHOPS. All reservations are nonrefundable (our 72-hour cancellation policy for regular classes does not apply to workshops). If you cannot attend a class, and if we are running multiple workshops, you may swap your class spot with a student in another workshop.
The fourth type of cancellation is when TSNY Los Angeles cancels a class or workshop. If we cancel, we will refund your payment.
We may cancel a class due to inclement weather. We all know that the weather is completely unpredictable, so canceling classes for bad weather is no exact science.
What has worked well for us is a system where we post weather
updates on our schedule page to notify you if we have to
cancel a class for the day. When we cancel due to inclement
weather, we notify you immediately by e-mail (or by phone
if you specify).
Our students have made it clear to us that they don't want
classes canceled unless it's absolutely necessary. Therefore
we wait until the last possible moment to make the call.
Why do I have to fill out a registration form on your web
site?
We want to know as much as we can about you, so that we
can help you learn and keep you safe. When you come to the
school, we keep a copy of your form on site.
This way you know that we know about any special needs
you might have, how to reach you, and how to reach others
who can be there if you need them. If you've already registered,
update your information when you sign up for your first
class this season.
It is very important that you keep us up-to-date about
your health and contact information. Please remember to
let us know when something changes. Each time you sign up for a class, you will be able to review your information and submit any changes.
Can I get a discount if I buy multiple classes?
Yes. TSNY Los Angeles class package cards provide a way for students to receive discounts on class prices. Go here for more information and to buy a card.
A single class card may be shared and used to pay for up to 2 others, for a maximum of 3 people in the same class. Class cards may not be used by a group booking an entire class.
Can my group get a special discount?
Discount rates are made available for groups and community
programs that want to participate but cannot afford our
regular rates. If you feel that your group falls into this
category, we will be happy to consider reducing or even
waiving our fee based on information you supply by filling
out our reduced or waived
fee application.
We cannot quote or consider any fee reductions until we
have received your application and had four business days
to review it. Please keep this in mind when considering
a booking for your group.
Class package cards cannot be used for groups.
How many people do we need to book a private class and
what does it cost?
You can book a regularly scheduled class with as many or as few people as you wish. You will be required to cover at minimum the cost of a full class for up to 10 people.
Follow this link to see additional activities that can be added to your class for an additional cost. If you're booking a corporate group follow this link for corporate info.
If your group has more than 10 people and you want the regular two-hour class, please be aware that the more people you have, the less flying per person is possible.
Please call or email our office for pricing.
What is aerial art?
Aerial art is any activity that expands your ability to
move gracefully and powerfully through the air. Working
on your "air awareness" means challenging your
body to feel comfortable whether you are sitting, walking,
running, flipping, falling or sailing through space. Activities
that promote this awareness include flying trapeze, trampoline,
static trapeze, Spanish web, silks, cloud swing, bungi trapeze
and many others.
Where can I find more information about flying trapeze
and other aerial activities?
The Internet is a great place to educate yourself. Our links
page offers entry to many sites that you can follow to learn
pretty much everything there is to know. In the US alone,
there are dozens of places you can do flying trapeze, and
more are opening every year.
If you are really serious about learning the ropes, ask
about our aerial and rigging internships. We can help introduce
you to a world of fun and challenging skill development.
What is a performance team?
Performance teams are formed with members who wish to develop
an act or acts that they can perform. If you wish to develop
a performance team you will be committing yourself to a
group who will together face the challenges of building
an act. You can build an act around flying trapeze, juggling,
acrobatics, doubles trapeze, hand balancing and many other
skills. Your team will commit to a series of times for practice
and the costs of instruction.
If you wish to form a team or want to be part of a team
let us know and we'll make an appointment for you to talk
with our team coach.
I use AOL and I haven't received any confirmation emails.
First, check your spam folder if you have one. (If you have a spam folder, there should be a small link on the bottom of your mail window reading "Spam Folder" and the number of messages in it. If you find the mail is in your spam folder, just hit the "This Is Not Spam" button when you open it. If this has happened repeatedly with the same sender, try adding the sender's address to your address book.
If you find that you are having problems with mail being delivered to the spam folder often, check the settings on your account, which you can find at Keyword: Mail Controls.
