Static Trapeze & Lyra Classes

Static Trapeze & Lyra

The Static Trapeze is an aerial apparatus consisting of a bar hung from ropes. Unlike the flying trapeze, this one generally stays in place. Lyra/Aerial Hoop is a metal circle that is suspended from a single point. Climbing, inverting, rolling and turning every which way on these apparatuses, students discover their center of gravity in many different positions. You will learn how to move from different positions with grace and ease while gaining strength and control. On the trapeze you will learn to use the bar and ropes to pose, invert, balance and drop into thrilling positions. On lyra you will learn all of the above with the added excitement of spinning. After growing comfortable with solo work, you can learn to work in pairs and teams to build shapes in the air, turning them inside out and upside down in poses that highlight both strength and flexibility.

Please see the note below about apparatus availability.

Class Format

Classes are available as 1 hour private lessons at $80. Please call the school to arrange.

What You'll Do in Class

The classes include a warm up, strength training, conditioning tips, and stretching. You'll learn at your own pace and interest level. Beginners will focus on proper body position, muscle usage, basic positions, and basic balances. More advanced students will learn more difficult skills, choreography and artistry. As your strength and confidence increase, you'll be amazed at what you are capable of doing.

What to Wear

It is important to wear clothing that covers the backs of your knees and under your arms. You will want a shirt that can be tucked in to give your back protection. Long stretch pants or footless tights and a tight-fitting top are suggested. Tighter fitting clothing that gives you full range of motion is best. Shorts are not recommended since the back of your knees will be on the bar, and loose clothing may get in the way.

Important Note

Class availability varies for each apparatus. Please check our schedule -- the apparatus will be included in the class name. If you see classes named "Static Trapeze" but are interested in Lyra, please contact us to ask about availability.
